Death Valley 2008 Bill Steinhurst
So, you’ve filled up the card in your digital camera or, worse yet, your computer’s hard drive. Now what? When you are drowning in image files, a logical but flexible workflow is your lifeline. Bill will give an overview of when, why and how to import, store, backup, sort, rate, keyword, access, and output your images. He'll discuss the most important corrections you will want to apply, when in the workflow to apply them, and why. He'll refer to the latest software, including Photoshop CS, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom, and Aperture. Bring your questions!

Note: Bill is offering a class on this topic, which will run Wednesday, July 16 and 23, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. If you are curious, come to this lecture and see if this is the class for you!

2008 MEMBERSHIP APPEAL
Please join us in supporting CPS by becoming a member or renewing your CPS membership. CPS is dedicated to elevating access to and appreciation for the photographic arts in Central Vermont, and your support helps to underwrite our various projects: the Community Darkroom at Studio Place Arts in Barre, educational workshops throughout Central Vermont, monthly third Thursday programs in Montpelier, member exhibits, and youth programming, including the oral history and portrait project matching Barre teens with Barre elders.

Our income is derived from many sources, including grants, tuition, and our community darkroom, but nearly one quarter of our income is from memberships like yours. Members’ dues and contributions are essential to meeting our daily expenses for rent, insurance, darkroom expenses, and printing and mailing costs.

Membership Benefits:
• discounts on classes offered by CPS;
• invitations to enter work in CPS member exhibits;
use of the CPS darkroom during community darkroom hours, with hourly darkroom fees waived for darkroom and core members;
• one year free enrollment in the preferred customer discount program at Green Mountain Camera in Waterbury Center—a $25.00 value;
• one year free enrollment in the film club at Bob’s Camera in Barre, including 10% of select merchandise and 20% off the price of film and reprints;
• notification of local and regional exhibits and presentations;
• participation in electing the CPS board of directors and officers;
• connection with the many other photographers in our area.

New members will receive a certificate entitling you to 20 free 4x6 prints from your digital camera at Bob’s Camera and a photo-magnet created by photographer Annie Tiberio Cameron.

CPS offers several levels of membership:
• Supporting ($35) and Senior Supporting Members ($20);
• Darkroom ($175 annually or $115 per 6 months);
• Senior/Student Darkroom Member ($125 annually or $90 per six months); and
• Core Membership ($275 annually or $175 per six months).

Learn about the benefits of each membership level on the membership form. You may print the membership form and join or renew by mail. If you prefer, you may pay the membership fee with a credit card from our website using PayPal, a secure server.

Let us know how we can improve and build on our programs and services. Your suggestions will help us to tailor our programs to the needs of the community and increase our access and visibility. Members are always welcome to attend our monthly board meetings, and if you have interest and time, we also have openings on the board and volunteer opportunities. If you like to contribute without becoming a member, we welcome targeted contributions to a scholarship fund to subsidize class tuition, or to assist with the costs of darkroom chemistry, for example. And—if you know of someone who might be interested in CPS, please pass this along.

With your help we can continue and expand our ability to bring more and varied photographic programs to Central Vermont. We appreciate your support and look forward to a great year featuring exciting class offerings, speakers and programs.  Thanks for your interest in CPS, and we look forward to receiving your renewal soon. Thank you!

Sincerely,

The Center for Photographic Studies Board of Directors
